Your thoughts, feelings, emotions, sensations, imaginations, perceptions keep on changing every moment. Whatever thoughts or feelings or emotions you have today will be totally different from yesterday’s or 1 week before or 1 month before or 1 year before. Similarly your memory keeps on getting updated. Your body is constantly changing with new cells being added and old cells are being replaced every moment. Likewise your perceptions, attitude, behavior, addictions etc are kept on changing.
How you feel these things like your feelings, emotions, thoughts etc. Through your awareness. You are aware about all these things. You are experiencing it through awareness. Aware about it. That is the only thing permanent from your childhood. All other things keep on changing everyday but awareness is the only thing always the same or unchanged. It is like a flash light from the source or consciousness. It is always there whether we notice it or not. It is coming from the source – I or Atman or Soul or Consciousness.
When we continuously focus awareness on a particular thing then it will become attention or concentration. Normally we don’t notice. Our awareness is active all the time and brings awareness about all the things happening inside and outside like thoughts, feelings, emotions etc. When you start noticing the awareness it will become like a meditation. Since it is like a flashlight you cannot directly keep attention on it but you can be aware about the awareness.
Awareness emanates from the source or consciousness. So when you are aware about the awareness you are becoming closer to the source or I or I am. Normally awareness is being scattered in multiple things because we mostly concentrate on the objects we are being aware of like feelings, imaginations, thoughts, emotions etc. We never look at the source or at the awareness. So when we start to watch the awareness then the concentration will be changed to the awareness instead of the objects. That is really a good meditative state because when we are more aware about the objects like feelings, emotions and thoughts our energy becomes scattered. But when we look at the awareness itself our energy will be more concentrated in one thing.
This is a very effective method of meditation. Looking at the source. Being aware of what you are aware of at the current moment. Looking at the source. Awareness is the property of the soul or consciousness. That the divine energy inside you. Permanent. All other things keep on changing like body, mind etc. So move awareness to your awareness. Contemplate on awareness. Am I aware ? What am I aware of at the moment ? Instead of concentrating on the objects concentrate on awareness itself. If you develop this habit slowly your thoughts will come down. You will be in full control of your thoughts, feelings and emotions because all these you are experiencing through awareness.
Suppose you are in a large room fully dark and you have a torch light. This torch light is your awareness. This room is filled with so many objects like past memories, thoughts, feelings, emotions, habits, sensations, perceptions etc. When you move this flash light or awareness to a particular object then you will be aware about it. So awareness is the basis of everything we are experiencing. That is a divine thing. Without that we don’t exist. So if you need to control your feelings, thoughts or emotions you need to be aware about your awareness.
