Searching for Happiness Outside
When we buy a new car or house we hope that it will give ultimate happiness for a long time. But in reality that happiness will remain for a very short period of time, maybe weeks or months. Similarly when we go on a vacation we expect lots of things, but sometimes even after a few days we may get bored and feel like going back home. Sometimes the most luxurious things in the world may not even give us happiness. Why is it so ?
Ultimate Happiness is Inside
Problem is we always search for happiness outside but in reality the happiness sits inside us and most of us are not aware about it. There is a gold mine of ultimate happiness, bliss and ecstasy is inside and we are searching for happiness outside like a beggar. Whatever happiness we get from outside is temporary and will depend on the outside world which can change any time. We don’t have any control over it and it depends on so many people and situations.
Change your Perception
But the inside happiness is permanent and it purely depends on us and the outside world has no control over it. Only you have to learn how to turn your awareness inward. Once you learn to enjoy the happiness inside us then you will never have to beg outside for little happiness. Why beg for drops of water when a massive sea is inside us ? Just change your attitude, perception and way of thinking then it is all yours. You don’t have to spend any money or travel a lot or do any Himalayan task – it is a very simple process.
The Subconscious Mind is our Mega Storage
Our basic nature is ultimate happiness, calm and peace. Then why do we become unhappy ? The real culprit here is our mind. Our subconscious mind contains a large collection of data of our experiences, past incidents etc. It records whatever comes through our senses – mainly eyes and ears. It keeps on recording irrespective of positive or negative and has been doing from our childhood. Our beliefs, habits, addictions, attitude, relationship patterns etc depends on these data. Unfortunately most of the recording will be negative because we come across so many negative things especially during childhood.
Importance of Meditation and Mindfulness
So the mind is controlled by these negative data and that is why most of the time our minds go negative and we become unhappy without any reasons. To avoid this only we can do is either program our subconscious mind with more positive information or reduce thoughts and be in the present moment. When we are in the past or future it is controlled by the subconscious mind. But when we are in the present moment we are really alive and controlled by the conscious mind. So don’t allow the subconscious to take control and be conscious and let the conscious mind take control. That is the beauty of mindfulness. We already covered mindfulness in other posts.
You are the Master, not Mind, Body or Intellect
So what to do to stay positive always ? Main thing is to reduce thoughts and be in the present moment. Current moment is the only one you have and enjoy that to the maximum. Mostly thoughts about the past or future brings negativity. So be alive and present. Here and Now. It is not easy to control the mind. For that do meditation and yoga daily. Be with the self and observe the mind. You are the soul and far above mind and intellect. You think you are the body and mind. You are so identified with mind and you think you are the mind. But in reality mind is only a small thing and you are far above than body, mind and intellect. Don’t sit inside your mind. Let the mind also work like any other organ in the body. Don’t get super identified with mind. You are the soul or self or consciousness or awareness. All other things are not you.
Take Charge, Be Happy Always
If you practice this slowly your mind will calm down. Now mind is the master and you are a slave. It is supposed to be the opposite. Soul is the master and mind, intellect and body are supposed to be slaves. You will get ultimate happiness only when you are in control, not controlled by mind or body. So take charge.
